People believe that the first day of work is important. If you want to make a good start, you have to be sure that this day will work out well. It’s fairly usual to feel nervous during your first day at work as you’ll be meeting a lot of new people and, of course, you need to make a good impression. However, men often experience difficulty in choosing the appropriate clothes to wear.

You were probably wearing a suit and a shirt during your interview, and it paid off since you’re already hired. Knowing how important it is to dress properly, you face another challenge as you enter the workforce: dressing properly for work every day. To help you decide on what clothes to wear, follow the guidelines below.

It’s fairly inappropriate to wear a suit on your first day unless the company imposes a strict corporate attire. Considering this, you should ask the human resource department for the guidelines on your office dress code. This way, you’ll have an idea on the type of clothes you can wear. You don’t want to end up underdressed, and neither do you want to look overdressed for your position.

Observe the kinds of clothes your officemates wear to work so you’ll know what would be appropriate. You’ll probably receive a lot of stares on your first day at work since you’re a new face, so make sure that you look less different from others to minimize attention. If you don’t have the chance to observe how your colleagues dress up, stay safe and wear a three-buttoned shirt with a work jacket, such as a Dickies work jacket.

If you’re not in a high-paying job, it’s a bit impractical to invest on several suits; at least two would be enough. You should invest on ties, shirts, and sweaters instead. Buying jackets like a Dickies work jacket is also a good move.

Remember that dressing appropriately for work is important if you want to look responsible, respectable, and reliable. Wearing casual clothes, such as a Dickies work jacket with jeans, might be inappropriate for your usual work day unless your company allows casual attire. And even if the company does allow it, avoid wearing clothes that are too casual during meetings.
